The Saxon Tower

We are delighted that our Saxon Tower is OPEN!
The Church itself is open (and of course free to visit) every day, for private prayer and services. The Gift Shop is also open.

Do come and see the wonderful views over Oxford, as well as the fascinating artefacts in our small museum. Our Gift Shop has beautiful items for you to browse.

You can find our risk assessment here:
Risk Assessment for St Michael at the North Gate Tower and Shop during COVID 0.6

The tower of St Michael’s is the oldest extant building in Oxford, dating back to the Saxon times. It is worth a visit for its historical value as well as a great view over the city of Oxford.

It is 97 steps to the top of our tower, but don’t worry – they are wide steps and not very steep. There are also some interesting things to view on the way up, so you can stop and rest for a bit.

The Church, Tower and Gift Shop are open every day.

While the Church is free to visit, we do have to charge a fee for climbing up our tower to cover maintenance and staff costs.

A single ticket is £3.50

A child’s ticket is £2.00

A concession ticket is £3.00 (for students, OAPs and residents of Oxford)

A family ticket is £9.00 (Two adults and up to three children.)

If you visit the tower with a group (of ten or more), the ticket price per person is £3.00

If you have any questions about visiting the Saxon Tower, please contact the Gift Shop on 01865 255 776 or email our Church Administrator.
