St Michael’s welcomes the following Groups from the wider Oxford community:
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
AA is known world-wide for its assistance to those affected by alcoholism. Remarkably, each local group is a self funded and self managed entity. In Oxford, St Michael’s hosts a number of these groups, which meet regularly even in these unusual times.
Meetings, socially distanced, are currently held at St Michael’s on:
Tuesday 1-2 & 6-7
Access to the AA website is available here.
Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB)
CAB is a network of independent charities providing free advice on any number of matters.
The Oxford group holds planning meetings at St Michael’s, using our premises on an occasional basis.
CAB is not meeting currently because of the pandemic.
Access to the CAB website is available here.
Cruse offers bereavement counselling and support and meets at St Michael’s once a month on Wednesdays in normal times.
Online and phone support continues to be provided while in person sessions are suspended during the pandemic.
Access to the Cruse website is available here.
Cyclox is a local charity working to encourage cycling.
In normal times, they host various open events at various venues, occasionally at St Michael’s.
At present, there are only online events.
Access to the Cyclox website is available here.
Fellow is an Oxford Hub programme to provide free ESL lessons for Oxford residents, student and non student. Oxford Hub is a local charity.
St Michael’s hosts the very popular Fellow classes in normal times on:
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 7-9pm.
At present, there are only online lessons.
Access to the Fellow website is available here.
Oxford City Singers
The City SIngers is our most vocal group, creating a stir outside with the long queue anxious to get in, and enlivening Thursday evenings with their joyous sound.
The pandemic has meant a temporary cessation to this joy, but they plan to return.
In normal times the Singers rehearse in term time for a concert given twice a year, in Summer and at Christmas, rehearsals being 7-8.30pm.
Access to the Oxford City SIngers website is available here.
Samaritans is a country wide charity providing emotional support to those in distress and is known particularly for its phone helpline and suicide counselling.
We are pleased for them to use St Michael’s as a base on Friday evenings while they are in the streets of the City centre.
Access to the Samaritans website is available here.
